As part of our overall restoration plan, we started a community-based education program to inform the public and engage interested local residents in the process of restoring a threatened species. This on-going program has many aspects including: discussions with neighbors and landowners, presentations at school and professional meetings, public open-house discussions, media interviews, ranch tours, information booths, written handout materials, and popular and technical articles. We estimate 500 or more individuals across the state have heard about our work through these efforts and we have received many positive comments on our plans. Because our education goals are long-term, we are continuing to look for new ways to involve local landowners, students, and communities in our efforts. If you know of, or are a part of a school, group, or organization that would like to hear more about our efforts to restore swift fox and grasslands, please contact us to schedule a program. Feel free to give us a call anytime with questions or comments.
Restoration Goals:
Establish a population that promotes the long-term survival of the swift fox,
Restores native biodiversity to the area,
Promotes prairie conservation awareness,
Collect and disseminate scientific information.
