Desert bighorn sheep  have unique concave elastic hooves that allow them to safely navigate the precipitous cliffs of the Fra Cristobal Mountains on the Armendaris Ranch in southern New Mexico. This ability allows them to elude mountain lions who struggle to find footing.  But nothing in nature is 100% certain.  These pictures show a bighorn ewe whose misstep caused her to crash into a bush and become so entangled that escape was impossible.  Her death remind us that that even sure-footed animals trip and fall prey to the challenges of life.
